Airport Construction Timeline Moves Ahead
Groundbreaking for the relocated Panama City - Bay County International Airport came a little closer with two decisions made by the Airport Authority at its meeting today.
First, they named Post, Buckley, Schuh & Jerrigan (PBS&J) as the lead firm to complete the airport’s final design. PBS&J has been a member of the existing airport relocation consulting team and replaces Bechtel in these final stages of design and transition to the construction phase.
The second decision of significance was the Authority’s agreement to advertise for a program/ construction manager for the project. The principal function of construction managers is to work with the design team in coordinating actual project construction within established budget parameters.
In Authority Chairman Joe Tannehill’s words, “The Airport Authority intends to be very vigilant about controlling costs. We’ve seen the estimated cost of this project increase over the last few years. We’ve got to very tightly manage the construction of this facility to ensure the airport is built as cost effectively as possible.”
