Regional Approach Key to Better Air Service
A regional approach is the key to attracting new and better air service, according to Mike Bell, the former Vice President for Schedule Development at Delta Air Lines.
Bell outlined the importance of creating a compelling story for the region that includes existing demographic and economic facts – but also “tells airlines and what the numbers and analysis don’t show.”
Most important, he said that Northwest Florida is a fractured market, and we need to consider the new airport as a regional airport, serving everyone from Walton County to Gulf County and beyond.
Bell said he thought it was possible for us to win low cost service if we worked together, remained focused and stayed patient. Bell said: “Go to the airlines with a mix of people in leadership positions from government, business and the airport. The key is demonstrating regional cooperation and support.”
