Phoenix Construction Awarded $112.5 Million Site Preparation Contract

The Airport Authority has awarded a $112.5 million site preparation contract to Phoenix Construction of Lynn Haven, Florida. C.W. Roberts will be a major subcontractor to Phoenix on the project.

The News Herald examined Phoenix Construction’s record on recent projects for Bay County and elsewhere in Florida and found the company was “held in high regard among government officials” and “scored well on most of the projects it did for Bay County since 2001.”

The Airport Authority is taking considerable steps to actively manage construction of the new airport. Earlier this spring, the Airport Authority hired KBR, Inc., to serve as the project and construction management firm for the airport.

KBR completed its own examination and praised Phoenix for having “excellent field personnel,” “a good record of completing projects ahead of schedule” and “excellent safety records.”

It is also worth noting that Phoenix has successfully completed many other similar projects, including a major project for Southwest Florida International Airport near Ft. Myers. Phoenix won FDOT’s outstanding airport project award for its work in Ft. Myers.

One last thing to note: There will be a host of regulatory bodies providing additional oversight of construction. The FAA will provide additional oversight and dozens of local, state and federal regulatory bodies will have specific oversight responsibilities.

Site preparation contract includes clearing and grading the airport site, fencing the property, building access and perimeter roads, preparing compacted pads for the terminal and the public safety building and building the airport’s two runways and taxi-ways.
