Better Roads Ahead for Northwest Florida

Northwest Florida is – and will continue to be – the best part of Florida for one simple reason. We are planning ahead. And by planning ahead, we should be able to avoid so many of the mistakes made in other parts of the state.

Earlier this week, representatives from the Northwest Florida Transportation Corridor Authority held a public meeting at Gulf Coast Community College to discuss improvements to U.S. 98 from Escambia to Wakulla counties.

The planning group, appointed in 2005 by then Governor Bush, is working to develop a long-term plan to improve transportation across the region.

The group is evaluating plans that would widen roads, create new corridors and bypasses, add thoroughfares that run parallel to U.S. 98 and new bridges. The goal is to create a forward-thinking plan that will provide the region a rational, first-class transportation system.
