FAA Agrees Ivory-Billed Woodpecker Not An Issue

The News Herald reported on March 10 that the FAA has determined that for now the Ivory-Billed woodpecker is not an impediment to relocating the Panama City airport. The search for the elusive woodpecker continues.

According to the News Herald report, the FAA asked U.S. Fish and Wildlife to investigate the matter. As a result of the investigation, the FAA concluded: “The proposed project probably would not impact the birds, based on the findings that there would be a lack of suitable habitat within the action area where the construction would take place.”

To date, the Northwest Florida Water Management District, U.S. Fish and Wildlife, the FAA and the Auburn researcher who believes he found the bird all agree that the proposed relocation will not impact the Ivory-Billed woodpecker.
